hand-painted fabric jewelry
An article I read this year led me to experiment with making accessories and clothing ornaments with fabric and puff paints. I coat a light fabric with clear puff paint to give it some body, then cut out shapes and paint them with designs. The ornaments can be sewn or glued together to make them three dimensional, and linked into patterns. They are light enough to be used for earrings and have lots of movement. They can be painted with any colors, making them a versatile accent for garments. I plan on making an entire dress out of fabric butterflies---it's going to take a lot of butterflies!
This set of butterfly earrings: $50.
